Celebrate World Vegan Day with a vegan hamper

Celebrated by vegans around the world World Vegan Day is on 1st November. The event was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis, then Chair of The Vegan Society in the United Kingdom, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organisation and the coining of the terms "vegan" and "veganism".

According to national figures, one in eight Britons are now vegetarian or vegan, and a further 21% say they are flexitarian – where a largely vegetable-based diet is supplemented occasionally with meat. Figures from the Vegan Society say that the number of vegans in the UK has risen 350 percent over the past decade. Some 542,000 people – i.e. more than one per cent of the population – have adopted a plant-based diet, up from 150,000 in 2006. 42 percent of them are aged between 15 and 34.

Gabriele Da Re, Managing Director at Hay Hampers says:

“The trend is clear; plant-based eating is taking the health-world by storm. Veganism is currently one of Britain’s fastest growing lifestyle movements and we at Hay Hampers pay special attention to new foodie trends and we always try to be innovative with our gourmet offer”.
